JoyceDeWitt started performing on stage when she was 13. DeWitt earned her degree from Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. Following that, while performing in summer productions, the director convinced her to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in addition to the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA, she worked as a secretary, completing her television debut on an episode of Baretta.Contrary to the rumor that she was trained by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has said that the two did not meet. Dewitt's portrayal of Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-84 season is the one that made her most famous. She was part of the show's pilot and was offered the role. DeWitt also appeared as Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff series The Ropers. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984, following which she resigned from acting for several years. In June 1991, she returned to acting with an in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured an actress who was based on her. The voice was performed partly by another actress. She appeared in the episode Cybill and made an appearance in the penultimate episode of Living Single. Her 2000s work includes TV shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
